July/August 2019

July and August have been super busy! Check out all of the back to school fun below!

I did four Google Certification bootcamps in July. All of the groups were great and excited to learn. This is a picture of our final group that was the largest.

I attended #GISDiCon in July. I volunteered at the Dot maker station to share the awesomeness of this robot. He is a coding robot that is so much fun!

I also presented at #GISDiCon with the topic of virtual visits. I shared our experiences with online author visits to a small, but cool group of educators.

I attended a session about GIFs and was amazed to learn that you can use them in so many different ways. I am excited to try out using GIFs in a Google Form.

I went to a session on Jamboard. It was aimed towards secondary, but I loved trying out the different features and the overview of how to use it.

The first week of August brought professional development for the librarians. Here is our motto for this year!

We were able to get a new rug with our Scholastic book fair bonus points.

I love these signs that the district is giving out for Google certifications! I had to renew both my level 1 and level 2 this summer.

Our coordinator challenged us to become Common Sense Educators so I checked that off the to-do list before the craziness begins.

The hallways had themes this year so I joined the kindergarten hallway in embracing the Candyland vibes for my bulletin board.

We read these books and discussed book care during the first visits to the library.

On the very first day of school, the specials team hung out together in the gym to welcome the students back with a fun game.

Makerspaces got off to a great start with kids collaborating.

These Hot Wheel sets are still one of the most popular things in our makerspace area.

Our fantastic #superspecials team! We were joined this year by our new principal Mrs. Bados and our new music teacher Mr. Kerr.

Kindergarteners have been doing a wonderful job checking out from the shelves!

We had four students complete their summer reading bingo cards. Here are a couple of the kids with their prizes!

I started working with a group of 5th graders on a novel study over The Lemonade War

They created AVID one pagers over the first two chapters of the novel. I am so excited because we will have an actual lemonade stand after we finish reading the novel.

It is hard to believe that it is already September! I am ready for cooler temperatures...and for listen/lunch book clubs, Tynker coding clubs, and more!

June 2019 Not in the Library

I usually do not blog during the summer, but I wanted to record some of the awesome things going on and reflect on June. Check out the summer fun!

I won these awesome new books at #edcamplibrary from Follett. They are a great partner to order books from and next year we will have two book fairs with them!

It was great to share and learn at #edcamplibrary with librarians across the state along with the very talented ladies above from #gisdlibraries

I was a co-presenter of a Google Bootcamp and I have four more to go in July...join the cool kids club and get certified!

I like to keep my GT certification even though I am in the library now. I attended a great workshop about meeting the needs of all students and even got to sit with a couple #bradfieldsbest

I am super excited for the new reading adoption in GISD! I went to a training about it and I love all of the pieces and how they integrate.

My foster dog Sergeant got adopted by a wonderful family and now has a fur sister to hang out with. If you are looking to adopt a dog or cat, check out Dallas Pets Alive! I volunteer with them in my spare time and it is so rewarding to see animals find their furever homes.

One of my dreams came true and I got to feed flamingos on a trip to Corpus Christi. The aquarium there is wonderful!

You can take me on vacation, but I always find the library! Here is one aboard the USS Lexington.

The beach is such a great reminder of God's beauty and strength. It was great to get away and relax for a few days with my husband.

They are not smiling because they got caught sitting by each other, but my "off" days this summer have been spent hanging out with them and I love it.

July is going to be a whirlwind, but I plan to try to make time slow down before the new school year ramps up. I am excited, but also trying to just enjoy the break. Maybe I will actually make time to finish a book or two this summer...haha!

May 2019 in the Library

May really flew by with testing and end of year craziness! I feel like this month was definitely the fastest one yet in my library career.

I spent Mondays and Wednesdays in May teaching computer classes to adults at the beautiful GRCTC high school.

My partners and I conducted classes about various topics like social media, Google, and digital resources. It was a super program that I hope continues in the future.

Parents loved learning how to email their child's teacher and even sent a few messages thanking them for Teacher Appreciation Week.

Book projects poured in this year so we celebrated degrees. These students earned a lunch party with their degree!

One first grade made it all the way to doctorate level so she earned a bubble party for her whole class!

My fabulous webmaster partner and I went to the district luncheon to celebrate our hard work.

Muffins with Mom was a success!

I hosted the talent show with wonderful acts that our music teacher Mrs. Nelson helped to prepare.

The PTA carnival finally happened after weather postponed it a couple times. Everyone had a great a time and loved the games along with the petting zoo!

Coach Thompson planned another fun-filled Field Day and our team rocked it.

One last team picture that summarizes personalities so well. :) There will be some big changes next year, but I have faith that it will be a great 2019-2020 school year because of this awesome staff!

I took some adorable videos of first graders doing a scavenger hunt for their summer reading book packs. It was so fun! You can check those out on my Twitter @readingray Between the district's summer reading contest with MyOn, the public library's contest, and Bradfield's summer reading bingo card...our kids should be rolling in the prizes! https://www.smore.com/3cgm8

Here is the recap of the whole year...it was a great one, but now it's time to do summer!

Mrs. McCarragher made this beautiful sign!

Kindergarten friends gave my flowers and treats!

The office staff gave me this wonderful basket of goodies!

The cards and sweet words made this week awesome!

True words!

We had a fabulous bio poem contest for National Poetry Month!

Our new makerspace items are a big hit!

We finished the month rehearsing for a PTA program with first and second grade!
